Was chatting to a lady in an art gallery who’s an artist and poet, and thought the conversation was worth sharing…
Lady: And what do you do?
Me: I’m a brand consultant
Lady: What does a brand consultant do?
Me: I help people and business work out what they stand for, bring it to life across their business and communicate it in a way that’s relevant to them and their customers
Lady: How come they don’t know what they stand for?
Me: (in head) Oh wow, she’s obviously clear about her purpose in life, as many creatives are, as they’re encouraged to express themselves through their work – and to do so, you have to know who you are and what you stand for, your purpose and values. What many don’t think about is what their audience wants/needs and relay on people finding and understanding them and their work.
Me: Ah good point. Because many people don’t think of it that way and, even they do, they might not know how to communicate it in a way that connects with other people – to sell their products/services to customers.
Like everything you do, you’re often so close to what you’re doing, you don’t see it yourself. And even if you do, you may not understand your customers or be good at communicating it. Many of my clients are humble and modest wanting people to value them for what they do. But how do people value you if they haven’t heard of what you do that’s so valuable?
